Relationship
and Study Relationship Relationship has always been
very important for Methodists. It is in our DNA. Loving
relationships is one of the eight characteristics of growing churches (according
to Natural Church Development). Loving relationships is judged not only
by how you like each other at church, but whether you wanted to spend time
with each other outside the church walls. Deep Christian relationships
are what a large majority of us seek from a church. It is in
relationship that we get to the deep things in life. It is in
relationship that we deal with our pain and learn to heal. It is in
relationship that we are nurtured and held accountable for our actions.
There are numerous short-term studies, extended small groups, and Sunday
school classes available at First United Methodist. If you don’t
find one that “fits”, contact the discipleship office and
we’ll see if we can start one. If you would like more
information on our upcoming small groups, check out the Discipleship
brochures available in the information centers at the back of the
sanctuary and in the CLC building or e-mail the discipleship office disciple@fumchs.com.

Study We believe that scripture is the primary source of
Christian belief and practice. We understand that how we interpret
scripture is always influenced by our traditions, our experiences and our
intellectual reasoning. It is important that we study scriptures
utilizing our knowledge of the historical as well as bringing discernment and
listening from each participant in the small group and the larger universal
church. God speaks through scripture. It is through our study
that we hear God’s story, our story in relationship with God and with
each other, and discern God’s direction for our lives. If you are
not part of a small group studying scripture, we strongly encourage you to
participate in one of the many that we offer. I am not familiar with most of the Bible. o Attend a short term
